We embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion in everything we do – from recruiting for our studios, publishing and operations, to fostering safe and respectful workplaces that encourage collaboration. Our culture is based on principles of respect, inclusion, and fair treatment and we welcome anyone into our family without regard to race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age. Diversity fuels our innovation and inspires us to create game worlds that bring us closer to the global community of players we serve. As part of our commitment to fostering an intentionally inclusive work environment, our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) create opportunities for cultural awareness, professional development, networking, community involvement, and player connections. These groups are inclusive by design, and are open to all employees. We understand there is still work to do, and we continue our efforts by focusing on our people, culture, content, and communities.
Representation in Our Games
We believe that inclusivity in game design starts with creating worlds and characters that reflect both our creators and players. This commitment to representing different communities in the games we create is something we constantly strive for; when developing games at ZeniMax, we seek to tell stories that resonate with our players and design experiences they genuinely connect with. Their unique perspectives and backgrounds help shape the myriad worlds we create and the diverse array of characters that bring them to life. This focus is something we take great pride in, from being recognized in the industry to listening and incorporating feedback.
Working towards Accessibility
Our studios innovate in all areas of game development, including making games that are more accessible and approachable. We design our games so that as many people as possible can have a fun experience. We solve design problems that remove barriers to enjoyment for players with disabilities. Accessibility features developed by our studios include text-to-speech, speech-to-text, input customization, text size adjustments, game speed adjustments, and more. Our accessibility work includes ongoing updates to games such as The Elder Scrolls Online, additional features in older games such as DOOM + DOOM II showing that it is never too late to make games more accessible. In addition, DEATHLOOP offers accessibility features such as the ability to slow the speed of gameplay, leading to being nominated for an accessibility award by theGA Conf awards.

Our History
1999
2000 - 2009
2010 – 2019
2020 – Today
1999
Our CEO and Founder, Robert A. Altman, established ZeniMax Media. From humble beginnings, a couple dozen of us started in a small suite of offices in our Rockville, MD location under a leaky roof. We have come a long way over the years to architecturally designed state-of-the-art offices and studios.
2000 - 2009
In 2001, Bethesda Game Studios was established, and the release of the Elder Scrolls games changed the face of the company. ZeniMax Online Studios was formed in 2007 as our multiplayer online games studio, and in 2008 we opened our London office and started to expand internationally. In 2009 we acquired id Software, its wide library of First-Person Shooters, and id Tech.
2010 - 2019
These were significant growth years, as we acquired both Arkane Studios and MachineGames in 2010. BGS opened its doors in Austin in 2012 to develop our AAA games, Montreal in 2015 to help develop our mobile game Fallout Shelter, and Dallas in 2017. In 2019, we established our ZOS Madison location as well as ZeniMax Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada.
2020 - Today
ZeniMax continues to expand and evolve, including a new ZOS studio in Budapest, Hungary. On March 9, 2021 we became part of the Microsoft family and Team Xbox. Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer’s thoughts on the merger: “We look forward to empowering Bethesda’s creative teams to reach even more players around the world, helping make future Bethesda titles the biggest and most popular games in their history. Thank you to all our players for joining us on this incredible journey and to the millions of Bethesda fans around the world. Now that we’re one team, we can start working together on the future ahead."
